Coming of Age

As youth prepare to leave childhood, congregations seeking to honor this transition with a guided, year long mentorship that challenges youth to define their beliefs and put their faith into action.

Over the course of the year, youth ages 11-14 explore not only what it means to be Unitarian Universalist (UU), but what it means to be you. Youth gather for fun workshops, retreats, worship, and justice projects.

Coming of Age is sensitive to culture, race, class, gender and theological/philosophical diversity. With mentors and guides, participants explore their identities, beliefs, and the connections they have--and can make--in love and justice to their faith communities, local communities, and beyond. They begin to build a faith-grounded “toolkit” for the joys, sorrows, wonders, and challenges of being human.

Culminating with a rite of passage, each youth shares a Credo - a statement of their beliefs and values.
