Meet the DRE!
Layla Waters (they/them) is non-binary and uses the title "Captain" rather than Ms. or Mr. They studied psychology and philosophy in school, and is a practicing pagan. They love learning new things and making things with their hands! They live in Hagerstown, MD with their gender fluid child and two sassy cats!
During their first month as DRE, they have spent a tremendous amount of time cleaning and organizing supplies and classrooms with a team of volunteers, built and launched the RE website, and has been working tirelessly to build on our new values and Community of Communities in our congregation.

  | NURSERY Our Nursery Staff, Nora and Daisha, have provided a consistent presence for our youngest children in RE. We are so grateful for their dedication and the love and joy they bring to the nursery! Sesame Street and pretend shopping are among the favorite past times here, along with trips to the playground. |
Pre-K & Kindergarten Robyn is a Family Advocate with Frederick County Family Partnership and has joined our Staff Team as our Lead for Early Childhood Development. With her assistance, we have recently opened up with Pre-K and Kindergarten room to provide a more age appropriate setting for the children attending RE who have outgrown the Nursery, but aren't quite ready for the Elementary Class. Robyn is lending her expertise to help develop training for staff that includes Conscious Discipline philosophies. |  |
 | Elementary, 1st - 5th Grade Dawn is one of our newest Staff members who has taken on our Elementary grade RE Class! Dawn has been instrumental in assisting with clean up, organization, and decorating our RE rooms! Dawn's enthusiasm and creativity shine as she leads our Elementary group through new Jet L. Pig Curriculum! Our RE children are learning about all the Values that make up Jet Pig's name in fun and exciting ways! We're so glad to have you on the Team, Dawn! Sawyer (not pictured) continues to be a dedicated presence on our Team, assisting in the Elementary Class. We are so proud of the growth we have seen in Sawyer! We are lucky to have her on the Team! |
Middle School Aaron has been a dedicated Volunteer to our Middle School aged youth for a few now. We are happy to have him join us as an official member of our Staff Team! Not only has Aaron been consistently working through UUA curriculum with this age group, he is also launching the year long Coming of Age program this Fall! We are blessed to have him on our Team! |  |
